Reading has been considered as investment. Test of English as a Foreign Language was developed to evaluate the non-native English speakers’ language. TOEFL has become a requirement for all the American universities; this test contains four sections: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The reading comprehension is the hardest section for most test takers. In order do better in this section, there are some strategies that can assist the test taker. These strategies are time management and attacking the passage.
“Time is money” should be the test takers’ motto. Using the limited time wisely is the most important TOEFL reading mastery tip. Timing is a skill that makes finishing on time possible. If you have a problem with the given time, time management is the solution that will dispose this problem and enable you to get high grades in the TOEFL reading. Approximately, one minute and 20 seconds is the appropriate time for each question, and your job is to select according to the timeline that is provided for you. Furthermore, try to choose an answer within the time limit even if you are not comfortable with the answer.
Attack; do not be afraid. Attacking the passages is one of the best strategies. To begin with, you should not read the whole passage before answering the questions because that will waste your time. Instead, acquire the basic concepts of the passage and prepare your mind for what you will be reading by reading the title of the passages and skimming the passages by reading the first sentence of each paragraph. Skimming the passage will grant you an introduction to the passage before you answer the questions and seek the details.
Test of English as Foreign Language has become globally important. This evaluator for the English language for the non-native English learners is a fundamental requirement to live and study in the United States of America. The reading comprehension on TOEFL is a challenge for most test takers; nevertheless, with these strategies, reading will become easier and more enjoyable.
